 The Featured Mademoiselle: Taylor Bass
Taylor Bass is The Future Starlet

Today, when I sat with Taylor Bass, I automatically saw her star potential. Her chic layered bob and striking, brown Guess eyeglasses told me she was destined for the life of the big time. However, when she had sung the chorus from Love Song by Sara Barreilles, my heart almost stopped. Out of a girl with a small frame came the most powerful voice and, that really summed up that she was destined for success.
"My parents told me that when I was an infant I used to sing in my crib. I guess I kind of went off from that statement and kept singing." Bass explained the realization of when she wanted to sing forever. She explained that her parents cultivated her talent and she took the nurturing and made something of her own. Although her parents are part of the fuel for the fire, she also says that Jennifer Hudson is someone that she admires a lot. "Jennifer is somewhat my inspiration," says Bass, "I guess it was because of Dreamgirls. That just blew me away."
From then on I had to ask her if she thought music and fashion work together. "Music channels through fashion," she paused, "fashion is like the memory or movie and music is the soundtrack!" She giggled at her own statement, wondering how she produced such a strong, meaningful answer from a simple question. Her personable attitudes made me just want to giggle!

The Featured Mademoiselle: Marshell Bass
Confidence Can Sure Make A Difference

When I interviewed Marshell Bass I found myself in front of a spunky, humorous, and of course fashionable lady. She was simple in her outfit of teal stone and gold Arden B. earrings, camel colored pants, a three quartered sleeved turquoise turtle neck, and gold booties. Although, her look was simple, it reminded me of contemporary fashion that needs a bubbly personality to make it work. With this in mind I had to ask her what makes her outfits pop. She emphasized that accessories make outfits pop because, they add personal style. "a person can wear your same blouse but, it looks different because the way they accessorized it," says Bass. (I must say I agree with her 120%)
Bass also asserts that confidence is the way to make any outfit special too. "My confidence and swagger is emanated through my fashion and style." Bass elaborates on the importance of striding with your head up high and walking with a boldness. "It is not what you wear but, how you wear it."
Even though her outfit is not complicated Bass doesn't like plain and preppy styles. You wouldn't find this mademoiselle in Lacoste, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Liz Claiborne, and Anne Klein. "I never understood why Tommy Hilfiger was such a big thing back then," Bass spills," I don't like anything to plain or crazy looking." (All mademoiselles should agree with that statement.)
As far as things that she does like she loves almost every designer that delivers. Her absolute favorite is Michael Kors. "The whole line of shoes, clothes, and purses are all things I would wear. I approve of all designers but I typically wouldn't wear the whole lines they put out." Bass also likes the way Michael Kors offers clothing that is more contemporary and appropriate for a professional environment. She also loves Nordstroms and Lord&Taylor. "They have a good variety of talent from the industry."

Mademoiselle Marshell Bass Q&A:

Q: Who is your style icon?

A: As far as hair it would be Rihanna but clothing is different. I blend styles from different people I like. I love to blend looks from Tyra Banks and Rachel Zoe.

Q: What is a trend you can't stand?

A: Nothing that can't transcend time. For example, bright and extreme hair is a don't. I hate nose rings and so many body piercings. I definitely, absolutely hate booty shorts.

Q: Do you know any stores that might sell or promote these trends?

A: Torrid

Q: What is one thing in your closet that you can't get rid of?

A: My black open toed BCBG Max Azria Paris shoes because of my haters taking pause and they ask where I bought the shoes. They stare all the time too.

Q: Past or present what decade was or is more interesting in fashion?

A: They all repeat themselves and they [designers] tweak styles. I really can't say. Pop culture recycles and so does fashion. Also on purpose designers bring in decades for example, the 70's came back, 80's, and soon the 90's.

Q: What is your March fashion staple?

A: Wearing ponchos and vests for spring.

Q: Do or don't: Cat-eye makeup?

A: Don't, it makes people look older. Beyonce is an example.
